Milano, 24 Nov. (askanews) – The far-right Australian senator Pauline Hanson wore a burqa to Parliament in Australia, an act described as “racist” and “disrespectful” by other colleagues. A member of the anti-immigration One Nation party, which holds four seats in Parliament, Hanson was trying to introduce a bill to the Senate that would ban the wearing of this full veil in Australia.
Members of Parliament prevented him from doing so. A few minutes later, Hanson returned wearing a black burqa and took her seat, sparking outrage from her colleagues.
The gesture is “a slap in the face of people of faith”, denounced Larissa Waters, leader of the Australian Green Party.
