Marijke Helwegen understands the criticism of the Curaçao editions of Today Inside and De Oranjezomer, although she does not understand Catherine Keyl’s clothing criticism. “It’s a staff outing!”
The criticism of the Curaçao broadcasts of Today Inside is now widely known: no reason, no hook, just a few weeks in the sun at the expense of sponsor Corendon. And now Hélène Hendriks has also been broadcasting from the island since Monday, on the site of Today Inside. The entire club benefits from a few weeks of free sun.
Marijke critical
Marijke Helwegen is in the Story asked about the criticism and agrees with the criticism. She thinks the choice to go to Curaçao has nothing to do with journalism.
She says: “Yes. I understand the criticism. The viewer now only sees a sunny setting and cheerfulness, which makes it indeed look like a staff outing.”
Clothing criticism
Fellow generation Catherine Keyl cannot take the guests of Today Inside seriously if they appear in shorts, but Marijke does not agree with that. “I don’t understand the criticism of the clothing. You don’t wear a suit in those tropical temperatures.”
Former politician Henk Krol thinks Marijke and Catherine are whiners. “It is a well-watched and highly appreciated program. The critics are just jealous. Today Inside is different from all other talk shows, and they know how to engage the audience by doing funny things. Then you get envy.”
