The 4-time World Champion: “We always try to find the limit, we all do it. Sometimes everything goes smoothly because we aren’t always controlled”
It’s a delicate moment for F1. The 2026 World Cup has not yet started and controversies are already raging. Max Verstappen’s words, then, do not help to maintain calm. During an interview with Viaplay, the Red Bull driver, in fact, focused on the topic of checks at the end of the race. According to the Dutchman, four times king of the Circus, many teams would have risked disqualification for having exceeded the limits imposed by the regulations, saving themselves only by not having been inspected. A surprising statement.
control of the cars

During each race weekend, the F1 cars are promptly checked at the end of the sessions. The analyzes concern the weight of the car, temperature, parameters and pressures of the hybrid system, the composition of the fuel and aerodynamics. Furthermore, the FIA delegate selects a car in a particular way. The choice is made randomly or upon notification. The practice does not seem to fully convince Verstappen, at least listening to his words: “We always try to find the limit, we all do it. Sometimes everything goes smoothly because we are not always checked. In my opinion, if the teams had been subjected to a check for every race, half of them would certainly be irregular. After all, it is not possible to check all the cars, it would take a lot of people”.

disqualifications
—
The 2025 season was decidedly particular when it came to suspensions. Ferrari knows something about it. In China the Red Team drivers were excluded from the finishing order: Charles Leclerc’s car was found to be under the permitted weight, while the SF-25 entrusted to Lewis Hamilton showed excessive wear of the lower skid. It was in Shanghai that Pierre Gasly, Alpine standard bearer, was also disqualified, again due to his weight being lower than the regulations. The loudest case concerned McLaren in Las Vegas: no points for Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, disqualified for an uneven surface on their car. A shock that reopened the World Championship, as recalled by Verstappen: “The disqualification of the two McLarens was an early Christmas present from my point of view, at least it made everything exciting. For F1 it was positive, but also for me…”. Max’s chase stopped just two points behind Norris, world champion in the last race, staged in Abu Dhabi.
