Patson Daka sent his team into ecstasy at the Africa Cup shortly before the final whistle. But the cheers were followed by a second of worry.

Shocking moment at the Africa Cup: Zambia’s national striker Patson Daka fell on his neck while celebrating a goal. The 27-year-old scored 1-1 against Mali in the second minute of added time yesterday, saving his team from a defeat at the start. The Leicester City striker wanted to celebrate this in an artistic way. Daka took a running start, lunged for a somersault, but then slipped with his hands on the ground and fell.

Daka initially remained motionless on the ground, but he was apparently not injured. At least the goalscorer was able to play the rest of the game.

Next Friday, Boxing Day, Daka has the next chance to pull off a successful somersault. Zambia’s second group game is against the Comoros.
