The married couple Stephanie Jean and Chris Turpin studied their role models thoroughly and rather cleverly named themselves after a piece by the American blues musician Sonny Terry. However, Ida Mae are also in the tradition of British provenance. Emerging from the English garage rock band Kill It Kid, the duo’s songs range somewhere between White Stripes and Eric Clapton, circa John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers. Chris Turpin (vocals, guitar) wakes up the old coma patient called Blues-Rock with targeted electric shocks, Stephanie Jean (vocals, piano) instills new self-confidence in him.
