Visitors to the center of Hoogeveen can use a new public toilet for 50 cents in the future. The municipality wants to put down a toilet for 130,000 euros.

The toilet block must arrive at the bicycle shed at the intersection of the Hoofdstraat with Jonkheer de Jongestraat. A booth at the bicycle shed was preferred over a toilet at the Hoofdstraatkerk and Punt H at the Tamboer.

Hoogeveen has been scoring a big insufficient in toilet friendliness for years. Visitors to the city center have so far been dependent on toilets of catering establishments or those in the Hema. For years there has been the wish of entrepreneurs, political parties and the disabled platform for a toilet that can also be used outside shopping times.

The municipality preferred to place that in an existing building, for example in collaboration with an entrepreneur. That didn’t work out. That is why it has now been decided to create a separate toilet facility.

The city council still has to approve the investment. The Council must also agree with the costs that will be incurred annually for cleaning and maintenance. After settlement of the proceeds, it is about 15,000 euros annually. The tender can start after approval of the council.

As soon as the toilet arrives, Hoogeveen wants to ask 50 cents per toilet visit. “This corresponds to the tariff set of surrounding places in the region,” says the municipality.
