HBL: MT Melsungen and SG Flensburg-Handewitt with successes

MT Melsungen won the top game of the handball Bundesliga against the Rhein-Neckar Löwen and consolidated its place in the top trio.

The surprise team of the previous season beat the team led by national player Patrick Groetzki 30:23 (16:12) and is currently the first pursuer of league leaders Füchse Berlin.

On Sunday, SC Magdeburg has the chance to move back to second place. The best thrower for the Melsungers was Timo Kastening with seven goals. Jannik Kohlbacher (6) was the most successful among the guests.

Apart from a short phase after half-time, Melsungen was the better team, but missed too many chances. The MT had goalkeeper Nebojsa Simic to thank for the fact that the victory was never in serious danger. The Montenegrin parried a total of 16 shots from the Lions in front of 4,500 spectators and even scored a remarkable shot from his own box into the opponent’s goal.

SG Flensburg-Handewitt celebrates an undisputed victory

The handball players from SG Flensburg-Handewitt had previously won their sixth league home game and celebrated an easy 35:28 (19:11) success against newly promoted ThSV Eisenach. With eight hits each, Lukas Jörgensen and Kay Smits were the best throwers in the fourth place in the table. Manuel Zehnder scored 13 goals for the Thuringians.

For the North Germans, who are currently competing in the Bundesliga and European League, it was the sixth win in a row across all competitions. “We like to have two games a week. We are a new team and this way we get into the rhythm better,” said coach Nicolej Krickau about the packed schedule at “Dyn”.
