France is expanding cycle lanes in Paris for the Olympics

France is expanding the public transport network for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris next summer – and is focusing specifically on sustainability.

Almost 420 kilometers of cycle paths will be created in the entire region of the capital before the start of the two consecutive major events, Transport Minister Clement Beaune reported on Tuesday.

“We’re making progress every day to ensure our public transport network lives up to expectations,” Beaune said. “That means games that take place on public transport so that all spectators, if they wish, can use sustainable transport, mainly public transport can get to the various competition venues.”

Several million visitors are expected in the Paris region during the Games. By the end of May, almost seven million tickets for the competitions had already been sold.
