Fireworks, flames and dance music in the middle of the Chinese desert, but with a Brabant touch. Caffero Event Fireworks from Berlicum has won a prestigious fireworks competition in China. A major achievement, says ShowCreator Roeland Weijenburg himself: “China is of course the land of the fireworks and then when the small Netherlands is first is almost impossible.” He calls it the ‘most beautiful performance’ of the company so far.
The World Fireworks Conference In Zhongwei lasted two days and attracted more than 20,000 visitors a day. The Caffero show lasted eight minutes. “In total, more than 3000 pieces of fireworks went up in the air, with enormous effects that we often not use here during shows during shows,” he explains.
Because it was in the desert, they could use mortars. That is almost impossible in the Netherlands. “The Netherlands is so full that you can hardly use it anywhere. In the desert there is a huge amount of space and you can therefore use a large caliber of fireworks.”
Hardstyle and House
The Berlicum company wanted to tell a story with fireworks. With the theme Colors of Connection they depicted the connection between China and the Netherlands. Not by igniting full gas fireworks, but by creating peaks and troughs.
“When descending, the audience can breathe, and then breathlessly take the peaks again. That is what the audience will remember the most.”

Normally, classical music or film music is used at fireworks shows in China. Caffero did something else: a self -compiled mix of hardstyle And house. According to the showcreator That ensures a ‘dynamic’ and ‘fast’ show. The show started with light trance music and ended with hardstyle. “And that distinguishes us from others.” In China they look up to the Dutch dance festival culture, he saw.
Honor
The Berlicum company won a modest amount of money and a large cup. “It is mainly the honor, the name you build up.” And extra experience. Weijenburg now expects more invitations for other competitions.
Next week the next large fireworks competition, in Bilbao, Spanish, is waiting. “One of the largest in Europe,” he says. Caffero fights against teams from seven other countries there. “This summer, the company provided fireworks shows at Brabant festivals such as 7th Sunday, Harmony of Hardcore and the Tilburg Fair.
