At the home World Cup in Klingenthal on Saturday (December 13th, 2025) only one DSV eagle was able to convince. While his teammates performed poorly, Philipp Raimund flew back onto the podium behind the outstanding Domen Prevc from Slovenia and the Austrian Stefan Kraft. Andreas Wellinger then drew the conclusions and took a break from the competition.
Fog had rolled in during the competition in the Saxon ski jumping stronghold. “That could be confusing”said ski jumping expert Sven Hannawald about jumping into the fog.
This didn’t confuse DSV hopeful Philipp Raimund, who, after his podium double in Wisla, Poland, also had his sights set on the top 3 in Klingenthal as the best qualifier.
Raimund has to deliver – and he delivers
After Andreas Wellinger, Pius Paschke and Luca Roth didn’t make it into the top 30 in the first round and Felix Hoffmann only narrowly made it to the final, Raimund had to deliver again. “My goal is to continue performing my jumps at the same level“, he explained: “II’m super happy, especially because I was able to jump onto the podium in Klingenthal.“
Unfazed by the pressure, the 25-year-old showed a great jump and took second place behind Domen Prevc. However, a whopping 8.5 meters separated him from the leading Slovenian. In addition, Jan Hörl (AUT) and Stefan Kraft, who returned after a two-week maternity break, were waiting for their chance right behind them.
The eagle from SC Oberstdorf had to give up a few meters on the second jump – Kraft was able to pass, but could not prevent Prevc, who were once again jumping in a league of their own, from winning.
After Geiger, Wellinger also goes into special training
Andreas Wellinger, on the other hand, is looking for the flow a good two weeks before the start of the Four Hills Tournament. While Karl Geiger didn’t even make it into the team, the athlete from SC Ruhpolding got his chance.
But with the weak jump to 123.5 meters, disappointment followed: “My jumping performance is just bad at the moment“, said the 30-year-old at the sports show microphone. It’s not a jump curve, but one with four or five corners. The consequence for him? He definitely won’t be there next week in Engelberg, explained the 2018 Olympic champion. “The feeling isn’t there for him at the moment“, said national coach Stefan Horngacher. We will try to train at home.”to nurture him again“.
