The Brianza team prevailed at the tie break of a very tight match, sealing the eighth and earning the pass to the quarterfinals of the Italian Cup
MONZA-GROTTAZZOLINA 3-2 (20-25, 30-32, 25-21, 25-19, 18-16)
Monza throws its heart over the obstacle and with a crazy comeback wins 3-2 against Grottazzolina, guaranteeing eighth place and qualification for the quarterfinals of the Italian Cup. A match of suffering, for two sets, to which however Beretta and his teammates remain attached with their character. The rest is done by Padar, who after two sets in which he is more damaging than anything else (5/17 overall in attack), takes the lead, deserving the title of MVP (28 after 32 in Padova 5 days ago), no less than the Bulgarian spiker Velichkov, 22 points of quality and personality. The Yuasa Battery appears to be a lively team, exactly one year on, in the same facility and against the same opponent as their first historic victory in the Super League, but they make too many mistakes and even in key moments, wasting 3 match points in the tiebreak.
emergency

Eccheli has to deal with the sick situation (Rohrs only on the scoresheet, Marttila, Atanosov and Mosca on half duty) and starts with Zimmermann in the direction opposite Padar, Velichkov and Atanasov on the bench, Larizza and Beretta in the center with Scanferla as libero. Ortenzi responds with Falaschi-Golzadeh diagonally, Tatarov and Magalini spikers, Stankovic and Petkov central with Marchisio libero. The first set was immediately split by the guest’s serve (4 aces) in the opening 6-11. Vero Volley seems off, sinking under hits from 9 meters from Tatarov and Petkov, gets close to -2 (16-18) but gives up in the final (20-25). The second half was tighter, with the teams still close and the score ending 30-32, with Monza wasting 5 set points and the guests scoring at the third attempt. The effectiveness of the 4 places marks the difference: 17 points (with 14/26) for Magalini and Tatarov, 9 for the Brianza Velichkov (still positive), Atanasov and Marttila (7/16 overall), and Padar who is the shadow of the one from Padua. With their backs against the wall, Monza reacts beyond the available energy: Padar comes on, the game in the center works (Beretta does well), while Grottazzolina suffers the decline of Magalini and Tatarov, only partially compensated by the growth of Golzadeh because the errors of the Marche players (10, after the 12 of the previous set) are too many. Locals always ahead without problems and 25-21 which reopens the match. The bands drop, but the Iranian opposite grows, but it is too little for the guests, who in the fourth set last until 17-16 (with Velichkov still the protagonist). Then again Padar and the wall (2 finals by Larizza) equalize the scores (25-19).
WHAT AN ENDING
—
Thrilling tiebreak: first Golzadeh and then Tatarov leave Grottazzolina ahead (11-13), the turning point is 13-13 by Padar after a block to one by Marttila on Golzadeh. The Marche players have 3 unexploited match points, and the two best of the match close the game: Velichkov (18 years old and unheard of) with a block and Padar with an ace. The 18-16 makes Eccheli’s boys unreachable in eighth place, who go to the Italian Cup quarterfinals thanks to their third consecutive success. For Grottazzolina a point that moves the standings but also the feeling of a missed opportunity.
Monza: Padar 28 points, Muri team 14 (Larizza, Padar 4), Ace team 4.
Grottozzolina: Golzadeh 24 points, Muri team 7, Ace team 9 (Petkov 3).
