In the last week of the Tour de France, the two are also ‘owners’ of the Tour Café in Hilversum’s Beeld & Geluid.
“There are those programs that you only have to think about for one second at most,” says Ghislaine Plag enthusiastically about her new job. Her colleague Henry Schut is now an experienced hand in the profession, and for her it means a cycling debut.
The radio presenter, known for, among other things, the KRO-NCRV program Speech makersswitched to NOS Sport in 2024. “Honestly, I feel like I still lack some cycling knowledge. I also had that when skating during the Olympic Games. But I saw how quickly you go along with it.”
Plag listened to various podcasts in preparation and visited the Tour of Flanders to get the ‘right feeling’. “I went home with a big smile. And fortunately I will soon be surrounded by several analysts. I am not worried at all.”
Camping atmosphere
What makes her different from Robert Meeder, who presented the program on NPO Radio 1 for eleven years and retired last year? Plag: “That is difficult to compare, because everyone brings their own personality. What I hear about how I make radio: with a lot of energy, dynamics and positive energy. And with a positive slant, but always realistic. I also think that what the Tour breathes suits me. So creating a lot of atmosphere.”
Plag is especially looking forward to the final week. Then it is Radio Tour de France can also be attended live at the Netherlands Institute for Sound & Vision in Hilversum. “I happened to be there last year as a visitor to the Tour Café. Great, there is a kind of exuberant camping atmosphere with about five hundred people. It is somewhat reminiscent of the Top 2000. And now I finally understand why I have a French first name. It had to be that way,” the NOS member laughs.
The first broadcast of Radio Tour de France is on the 4th of July.
