Big moments and lots of excitement: the 8th matchday of the DBL started with three groundbreaking duels.

In Bonn the Capitals met their direct rivals from Paderborn, in Mainz the Athletics and the Gauting Indians fought for important points in the interleague race, and in Heidenheim there was a summit meeting of the southern relay between the Heideköpfen and the Guggenberger Legionnaires. After an eventful start, Bonn (2:0), Mainz (4:0) and Regensburg (9:5) were able to celebrate important victories. The highlight of the day was Mainz pitcher Leo Bristow, who threw a no-hitter in the Athletics’ 4-0 win.

Nine innings. No runs. Not a single hit. Leo Bristow delivered the highlight of the day in the duel between the Mainz Athletics and the Gauting Indians and became the celebrated match winner with his no-hitter. In a game with enormous importance in the race for the last interleague place in the southern season, the Mainz team showed a brilliant performance on the mound and consistently kept the guests at bay. Together with the Stuttgart Reds, both teams are fighting for the coveted ticket – making the success all the more important for the Athletics.

With two wins this weekend, the Heidenheim Heideköpfe could have made the southern championship perfect. But the Guggenberg Legionnaires had other plans. In a direct duel between the two top teams, Heidenheim had to admit defeat 5:9. At first it was an even encounter before two three-run innings from Regensburg shifted the momentum to the guests’ side. The Heideköpfe once again braced themselves against the impending defeat with a four-run inning, but were no longer able to force a turnaround. Regensburg remained confident in the final phase and completed the important 9:5 victory.

A groundbreaking top game was also on the program in the north. The Bonn Capitals beat Untouchables Paderborn 2-0 and consolidated their ambitions in the fight for the top spots. The man of the game was Niklas Rimmel, who pitched a complete game shutout for Bonn. The Capitals gained the decisive advantage in the third inning: Danny Lankhorst scored the first run of the game before McCoy Pearce also brought Eric Kunze over the plate with an RBI double. No more runs were needed that evening.

The next full portion of DBL baseball awaits on Saturday. The return games in Mainz and Heidenheim are scheduled for 1 p.m. An hour later, the Hünstetten Storm welcome the Dortmund Wanderers. The Munich-Haar Disciples will meet the Stuttgart Reds at 6 p.m. The end of a long day of baseball will be the second leg between the Untouchables Paderborn and the Bonn Capitals at 7 p.m. – this time in Paderborn – as well as the meeting between the Hamburg Stealers and the Cologne Cardinals.
