A woman claimed to be Miley Cyrus’ biological mother. Billy Ray Cyrus fought back. The court now dismissed the lawsuit.
Miley Cyrus’ father Billy Ray Cyrus hit back at claims from a woman claiming to be the pop singer’s actual birth mother. The incident was most recently litigated in court and has now been decided in favor of parents Billy Ray and Leticia “Tish” Cyrus.
Legal dispute since May
Plaintiff Jayme Lee filed her first complaint in Tennessee in May 2025, the Daily Mail reported. Legal recourse seemed to be the only possible option after she said she had been trying to contact the Cyrus parents for months. The now 45-year-old woman from Arizona claimed that she gave birth to Miley Cyrus in 1992 when she was only 12 years old.
Alleged adoption agreement was ignored
Lee also testified that there was a “private adoption agreement” that gave Billy Ray and Leticia Cyrus parenthood, but the birth mother was allowed to choose the child’s name and work as a nanny. However, this agreement was not adhered to, the lawsuit said. The new parents denied contact between Lee and Miley after the birth and even threatened legal action.
Demand for DNA testing
Jayme Lee relied on the illegality of the adoption contract, which was not recognized by the state. She also accused the Cyrus family of fraud because the parenthood was never officially approved. The plaintiff’s emotional distress caused by the incidents was also the subject of the lawsuit. Lee called for DNA testing of all those involved to prove her claims and have her alleged motherhood recognized.
Billy Ray Cyrus defends himself successfully
The singer’s father responded decisively to these allegations and filed an official motion to dismiss the lawsuit on November 20, 2025. The 64-year-old country singer accused the plaintiff of harassing his family and wasting legal resources. That dismissal has now been granted in Davidson County Circuit Court in Tennessee.
Miley Cyrus herself and her mother Leticia “Tish” have not yet commented publicly on the events.
