The Austrian, who currently plays for the Netherlands, had withdrawn from the first World Cup competition in Sölden earlier this season and will not start on Sunday in Levi, Finland.
Will there be anything to come with the second comeback of ski phenomenon Marcel Hirscher (36) under the Dutch flag?
36-year-old Hirscher reports Instagram that he will return in January, which means he will also skip the North American games in December.
Hirscher made his return last season after five years, but then announced that he would now play for the Netherlands, his mother’s country. In December last year he tore a cruciate ligament in his left knee. He missed the start of the season this fall due to illness.
In January the competitions are on the calendar in Madonna di Campiglio, Adelboden, Wengen, Kitzbühel and Schladming. Hirscher then hopes to qualify for the Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina a month later. The skier is a two-time Olympic champion and seven-time world champion.
