The police rolled up a professional hemp farm in Gieten last week. The nursery consisted of around a thousand hemp plants, spread over several grow rooms. Mayor Anno Wietze Hiemstra then decided to close the building.
The hemp plantation was discovered on the Oelenboom last Thursday. According to the municipality, the building was used ‘structurally’ for the cultivation and production of weed.
“The situation in the building was also a direct danger to public safety,” the municipality writes in a statement. “There was illegal power collection, overloaded circuits, defective ventilation and moisture problems that greatly increase the risk of fire and damage to surrounding buildings.”
The police stopped three suspects after the raid. Nothing has been brought out about their identity.
