The crisis summit at the German Football Association (DFB) about the future of national coach Hansi Flick ended after two and a half hours – with an open outcome.

The national coach left the conference venue in Neu-Isenburg near Frankfurt in his service limousine at around 5 p.m. on Wednesday (December 7th, 2022) without commenting on the previous content of the meeting with the DFB leadership.

Meeting with Neuendorf and Watzke

Six days after the embarrassing end of the World Cup by the German national team, Flick met DFB President Bernd Neuendorf and Vice Hans-Joachim Watzke early on Wednesday afternoon. Watzke and Neuendorf initially did not comment either.

Flick still has a contract until the home European Championship in 2024. Immediately after the World Cup, he announced that he wanted to stay.

The eagerly awaited meeting took place at the Kempinski Hotel Gravenbruch. The DFB had tried to keep the location secret. The “Bild” newspaper first reported on it. Watzke arrived at 1:57 p.m., Neuendorf followed at 2:06 p.m. Flick drove up last in the three-man lap at 2:26 p.m.

Flick under pressure after World Cup disappointment

The 57-year-old is under massive pressure after failing in the World Cup preliminary round. Neuendorf had demanded a comprehensive analysis from him before leaving Qatar last Friday. At the same time, Flick was struck by the departure of his close confidante Oliver Bierhoff after 18 years with the DFB.
