Women in Drenthe are less economically independent than the average in the Netherlands. This is evident from figures from the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS).
Economic independence means that your net income from work is at least social assistance level. In 2024, that amount was 1,295 euros per month. For the study of economic independence, CBS looked at people between the ages of 15 and the state pension age. Students and pupils were not included in the study.
The economic independence of women in the Netherlands increased until 2023. In 2024, the share remained virtually the same at 70 percent compared to the previous year, when that percentage was 69.7 percent. On average, men are more likely to be economically independent at 82.6 percent.
In Drenthe, 68.95 percent of women are economically independent. That share is the lowest in Emmen, at 62.3 percent. The women in Tynaarlo are most often economically independent in Drenthe, with a score of 75.1 percent.
