Jillian Lauren, bestselling author and wife of Weezer-Bassist Scott Shriner, appeared in court in Los Angeles on ThursdayND received approval to complete a two -year program on mental health program.
Judge grants diversion – lawyers satisfied
When she fulfills the requirements, the judge responsible should drop the two charges against her in connection with the change of shooting with police officers, in which she was injured in her own garden on April 8. According to the authorities, she is said to have shot the first.
“We think this was the right solution,” her lawyer Hilary Lee Potasner told Rolling Stone. According to court documents, the program includes regular therapy sessions, drug tests and alcohol controls. Lauren is also forbidden to own firearms.
Lauren, 52, had previously pleaded on “not guilty”. She was accused of deliberately firing on several civil servants who searched for accidents over a fence. Although she didn’t hit anyone, the police officers returned the fire in a chaotic scene that was documented on video.
Video recordings show contradictory impressions
The LAPD explained that Lauren had charged and fired her pistol while the officials were looking for suspects behind the fence. Body cameras and surveillance videos published on YouTube document the minutes before the shots.
In the almost 22-minute compilation, civil servants can be heard who ask a woman several times to drop her weapon. Due to the height of the fence, however, it cannot be seen on the police videos. A helicopter booms over the scene, voices overlap, the situation looks confusing.
Another video from Lauren’s own surveillance camera shows her with a black pistol in her hand, how she goes around the house and seems to use the weapon. Then she looks calm and withdraws, without visible reaction to the shots.
Arrest after hospitalization
Shortly after the change of shooting, Lauren left her house, was arrested without incident and taken to the hospital for a gunshot wound on the arm. Then it was arrested under the suspicion of attempted murder, but was released on deposit of one million dollars. The public prosecutor later reduced the indictment to negligent shot and attack with a semi -automatic weapon.
In a published emergency call, another person from Lauren’s house describes that Lauren was shot by one of the sought -after ones. In the background, Lauren can be heard himself: “I had my weapon and he said: ‘Put the gun.’ I said, ‘Do you put your damn weapon down.’ And then he shot at me. “
Writer with a moving past
The investigators secured a 9mm glock and a cartridge sleeve. So far, Lauren has not publicly commented on the incident. Her memoirs “Some Girls: My Life in A Harem” (2010) and “Everything You Ever Wanted” (2015) made them known to a broader readership. Just a few days after the shootout, Shriner performed with Weezer at the Coachella Festival.
