After relegation from the Bundesliga against SC Paderborn, VfL Wolfsburg is rebuilding for the 2nd Bundesliga. Another accurate striker is at the center of squad planning. As the “Kicker” and “Bild” initially reported, the Lower Saxony team is in talks with HSV attacker Robert Glatzel, who has already proven his qualities in the lower house. The signing of Damstadt’s Fraser Hornby (26), which was announced on Monday, is not enough. The tabloid followed up on Thursday with the information that Glatzel had agreed on a two-year contract with the Wolves. The farewell of the Hamburg audience favorite is imminent.

Now it is a matter of the two clubs coming to an agreement on the transfer fee. However, there is said to have been no offer or negotiations yet. It is said that the price could ultimately settle at around 1.5 million euros. HSV wants to use the money to look for two or even three new strikers. According to the “Hamburger Abendblatt”, the talks between Glatzel and VfL are well advanced. The veteran is intended as a kind of offensive tenth behind striker Hornby. The Wolfsburg team allegedly want to pay less than one million euros, but HSV is not satisfied with that.

Glatzel slipped down the hierarchy at Hamburger SV after promotion to the Bundesliga, also because injuries slowed him down several times last season. In 21 games he was only in the starting line-up eight times, but coach Merlin Polzin relied more on the 1.93 meter tall attacker, especially in the final spurt. He scored four goals and two assists in 712 minutes.
He is contractually bound to HSV for another year. In March, Glatzel signaled in an interview with the “Hamburger Morgenpost” that was not coordinated with the club that he was open to a change. “I still have one year left on my contract. But it’s also clear that I definitely don’t want to experience a situation like the one I’ve had in the last nine months again,” said the striker, who was subsequently suspended for one game but was in the starting line-up several times afterwards.
Wolfsburg would also like to start the coming season with the two 21-year-olds Dzenan Pejcinovic and Kento Shiogai in attack. Jonas Wind will leave the club and Mohamed Amoura should also leave. Therefore, VfL is looking for experience, which the 32-year-old Glatzel brings, especially in the lower house. The Munich native played 189 games in the 2nd Bundesliga for HSV, Heidenheim and Kaiserslautern, in which he scored 94 goals – currently eighth in the ranking of the best goalscorers. In the 2023/24 season he even secured the top scorer.
