Traffic jam threatens in spring on Julianaplein in Groningen

Project bureau Aanpak Ring Zuid calls on motorists to avoid Julianaplein on the south side of Groningen from the end of March to September next year. In this way, a traffic jam during the final work on the traffic circle should be prevented.

Work has been going on for years on the busiest intersection in the North, to ensure that traffic flows smoothly in the future. The end of this is now in sight. But before then, the new Julianaplein must first be connected to the A28 from Drenthe, among others. This will cause ‘serious traffic disruption’ for five months from March 22, reports RTV North.

To allow traffic to flow from all directions, it is necessary to drive 80,000 fewer cars every day. That is twenty percent less than what is currently driven every day. “If this does not work, traffic is guaranteed to get stuck,” Groningen Bereikbaar said. They therefore urgently appeal to road users to leave their cars at home as much as possible and instead travel by bicycle or public transport.

The work will not be finished after September 2024, but most people will be less affected by it. This mainly concerns work next to or outside the ring. For example, roads are demolished that are no longer needed.
