Timo Werner from RB Leipzig is currently loaned to Tottenham Hotspur. Now the English club has probably made a decision regarding its future.
Timo Werner’s time at Tottenham Hotspur is probably coming to an end. According to a report by the British “Mirror”, the Premier League club will not use the purchase option for the 28-year-old. The striker will return to RB Leipzig after the end of the season. The Londoners could have committed Werner for around ten million euros.
Werner had already been awarded to Tottenham for half a year before the deal was extended in summer. The aim of the attacker was to get his career in England back going. However, the 57-time international was not able to assert himself decisively.
In the Europa League, trainer Verzecoglou did not put Werner and stroked him out of the squad. Instead, the Mathys Tel borrowed from Bayern Munich for the competition was reported. In addition, Werner had been struggling with a thigh injury since mid -January. Although he would have been operational for the trace game at Ipswich Town about a week and a half ago, Poseteclou did not call him in the squad. At the 0: 1 against Manchester City last week, Werner was used in the last eight minutes.
A return to Leipzig also seems unlikely. Already in winter there was speculation about moving to the US League MLS to Leipzig’s sister club RB New York. According to a report by the “Bild” newspaper, Werner could now imagine a transfer in summer. Ex-Leipzig star Emil Forsberg also ends his career in the “Big Apple”. A German coach also trains the club with Sandro Schwarz.
Werner switched from Leipzig to Chelsea for 53 million euros in the summer of 2020, returned two years later for 20 million euros. However, the great success was at RB, so that there was a temporary separation again in January 2024.
