There are a total of 750 large trees, which will eventually be planted in the city. In the containers in which these trees are grown, 10 smaller trees also grow per container. This means that 7,500 trees are available, and an additional 2,500 have now been added. The total of 10,000 trees are divided between two foundations: Trees For All and De Gezonde Stad, each with their own approach.
“Half of the trees will be planted by Trees For All, here in the Amsterdam area. And the other half will be distributed to residents by De Gezonde Stad,” says Hannah Hendrikx.
According to Stef Röell, director of Trees For all, these trees can withstand this move well and you sometimes have to work hard to get the trees out: “You shouldn’t pet or be too careful, otherwise it won’t happen.” The trees will be placed in the areas of Purmerend, Huizen and Rondehoep, among other places.
Volunteers
The trees were removed from the boxes by 120 volunteers in three shifts and that was quite difficult for some: “It is hard work, but also quite tasty.” If you are still interested in one of the trees, you can do so via De Gezonde Stad to register to pick one up at one of three locations. The locations are: the Stadboerderij in Osdorp, De Ceuvel in Noord and the Artisplein in the Center.
