If Wück actually rely on Däbritz, he would have to change his offensive. Most recently, the 52-year-old relyed on Linda Dallmann or Laura Freiegel in a central offensive midfield. Against France, both could find themselves on the bench to clear the place for Däbritz.
The sometimes risky offensive game could create a deep -standing Germany that reduces the rooms for the opponent of France. The remaining offensive around Klara Bühl, Jule Brand and Lea Schüller would be staged with a quick switching game.
At the press conference, Klara Bühl emphasized that factors apart from the tactics were decisive: it is important that “you feel emotions and passion. We have to fill the game with life”. According to Giovanna Hoffmann, the team wants to “get into the head of French women”.
The team has achieved this a few times. In a total of 20 meetings, Germany emerged twelve times as the winner. France was only able to win six times – most recently as part of the Nations League last year (2-1). With a view to a European Championship, however, the advantage belongs to the German team. At the European Championship in England, Germany and France were facing each other in the semi-finals in 2022, in the end Germany won 2-1 to goals from ex-captain Alexandra Popp and moved into the final.
Since then, the teams and play styles have changed. Hoffmann therefore believes: “We have to look at the moment, our strengths and also at the team constellation and see that we win this individual game.” Uefa women’s football boss Nadine Kessler, who celebrated the last EM triumph with Germany in 2013, believes in the DFB team: “Nobody ever writes down Germany, especially not international people. And then the Germans shouldn’t do it themselves.”
The DFB women in Basel also benefit from the support of thousands of fans. Bühl: “I believe that this game will be incredibly well attended, especially because of the two teams. Of course we hope for a lot of German fans.” The Bayern player remembered the mood in the group game against Denmark: It could be a decisive factor, “if you realize that many people also support you. That helped us a lot in the game.” The Denmark game also took place in Basel. At that time, the DFB team was supported by almost 16,000 German fans.
