Tennis player Thiem postpones return and also misses Indian Wells

Austrian tennis player Dominic Thiem has postponed his return again. The former number 3 in the world and former US Open champion has withdrawn from the masters tournaments of Indian Wells and Miami. The Indian Wells tournament starts on Thursday.

“My recovery is going well and I have had good training weeks, but I have decided to cancel those two tournaments. I will return to clay, the surface on which I feel most comfortable,” said 28-year-old Thiem , who was dealing with a lingering wrist injury. The clay court season starts in a month.

Thiem last played in June of last year, at the Mallorca grass tournament. He was supposed to return to South America at the beginning of this year, but those plans also fell through.

In 2019 Thiem managed to win the Indian Wells tournament. He then defeated Roger Federer in the final.
