The former Minister of Defense of El Salvador, José Guillermo Garcia, and two high military officers, must be on trial on 23 April for the murder of four Dutch IKON journalists. The suspects would have been involved in the murder of the foursome 43 years ago. They were lured into a military ambush at the place of chalatenango and shot. The army leader and the commander of the unit responsible for the ambush, according to El Salvadoran media no longer live. The suspects who must now occur are former colonel Mario Adalberto Reyes Mena and former police chief, Francisco Antonio Morán. In addition to them, former Minister of Defense José Guillermo Garcia must also account. Reyes Mena would have passed on the order for the massacre.
Morán and García have been detained since 2022. Reyes Mena lives in the United States and must be extradited.
