The 2nd Bundesliga is often referred to as the best of all time. That is because Traditional clubs Like Hamburger SV, FC Schalke 04, the 1. FC Köln, Hertha BSC or the 1. FC Kaiserslautern play there. Unfortunately, there is often very little to see on the square. The current voltage is also the result of a lack of quality.

The apparent attractiveness of the lower house is also reflected in the number of spectators. The league is booming and is on record course when it comes to fan addition. And some Bundesliga club looks jealous of the numbers of the undermate competition.

Half the league is in the promotion struggle

Fans of the 2nd league, who cannot or do not want to do anything with Bundesliga clubs such as Hoffenheim, Heidenheim, Kiel, Augsburg or Leipzig, are also happy to refer to the tension in league two.

Indeed, the promotion race is tight as rarely before. The leader Hamburger SV is only six points in front of SV Elversberg eleven game days before the end. And the 1. FC Kaiserlautern has three points ahead of the tenth from Karlsruhe on the relegation rank. That means: Half the league is still involved in the promotion battle.

On the last matchday only the HSV won

So it is exciting, but with the quality it was not that far. On the last match day, all teams from the upper half of the table only won the Hamburger SV. This is probably called a snail race for the climb.

Example Elversberg: SV missed the leap to fourth place because she only got a 0-0 with the relegation candidate Ulm. The most excited Rhein derby between the 1st FC Köln and Fortuna Düsseldorf was similar. In the 1: 1, the “billy goats” missed the jump to the top of the table.

Badly played and fully in the race

“We know that we have already left a little bit and a cushion could have built up”said FC captain Timo Hübers, but also emphasized: “We are still in the race.”

Somehow that fits all the teams that play up there, even those who fail is still fully in the race, because all other pounds also regularly. What hasn’t Hamburg SV left behind. At the weekend there was a clear victory in the top game against 1. FC Kaiserlautern, but the week before the “red pants” failed at the bottom of the table (1-1). And as it runs on the next matchday in Paderborn for HSV, nobody knows – in a league in which everyone can beat everyone.

Hamburg’s point cut: 1.8

After 23 match days, the HSV has a point cut of 1.8 and thus comes to 42 points. For comparison: A league higher has won 58 points after just as many match days – that is an average of 2.5.

Teams not constant enough

Conversely, excitement also means that the teams with promotion ambitions are not constant and dominant enough to settle in the table.

Tension and tradition are one thing – lack of quality on the pitch is the other. If you look at the games week after week, you come to the conclusion that traditional clubs such as Hamburg, Cologne, Kaiserlautern, Schalke or Hertha belong exactly where you are.
