CASE LYHANNA

In July 2025, 13-year-old Lise welcomed her

more than twenty messages from Jérôme Barella, main suspect in Lyhanna’s murder. BFMTV watched the exchange between the girl and the then 40-year-old man. Lise met with the French newspaper at her taekwondo club in Auch. Barella was also at the club between 2023 and 2025.

Lisa’s mother, contacted BFMTV to raise the alarm about Jérôme Barella. According to her, he sent disturbing messages to her daughter. Before she went to the editor, Marie had not yet read the messages herself. “Lise just sent them to me because I asked for them. But I haven’t read them yet, so I don’t know what they say to each other,” says Marie.

According to BFMTV, the conversation resembles that between two friends from high school. But this concerns a 40-year-old man and a 13-year-old girl. For example, Barella sent Lise late in the evening: “Are you still not sleeping?”. As soon as Lise wakes up, he asks what she is going to do that day.

“In other messages, the man tries to comfort the girl, but Lise always says that she is doing well. “I know that you withdraw when things are not going well for you,” he writes. “The last time I had that impression, I heard two days later that you were not in good shape.” Barella then makes Lise a proposal: “If you want to take your mind off things, we’ll go out together.” And you only talk about your worries if you want to, otherwise it becomes ‘non-stop fun’.” Lise refused and said things were going well, but Barella persisted. “Yes, yes, it’s fine, but we’ll definitely have fun,” he sent.

During the conversation, Barella also asked for photos of Lise. “A small photo with a smile?” he asks. Lise sends a photo of herself in a dress. Barella texts back: “That photo is old.” A little later he repeats his request: “Can I have a photo of you smiling beautifully? I have the impression that you are not feeling well today.” All means seem permissible to obtain photos of Lise. When she confides in him that she has been sunburned, the man responds, “Show it to me now before it disappears.”I thank God every day that she said noMarie

Barella also invited the girl for a sleepover at his home. “Maria
daughter of Barella, asked if you are coming to the pajama party.” Lise ended up not going to the party. “I thank God every day that she said no,” her mother whispers. “Because I keep thinking: what would have happened at that party, knowing what happened to Rosa and Lyhanna?” Lise’s mother was bothered by Barella’s behavior in the martial arts club. “He was very sweet with the children, also physically. It was his manner, the way he spoke: very nice, too nice. He was always with the children. He didn’t talk to the other adults.”

“It scares me,” she sighs. “I’m angry with my daughter for reacting, but she fell for it.” Although Marie only knew the content of the messages on Tuesday evening, she had known about their existence since last week. The mother was alarmed by Rosa’s mother, who accused Barella of rape. “She called me and told me that Jérôme had sent messages to my daughter.” For the time being, Marie does not want to file a complaint against Barella. The mother does say that she will file civil proceedings if he appears in court. “He needs to be behind bars for a long time,” she says. “After everything he did to the girls.”
