Jannik Sinner is back on the Grand Slam stage. After his triumph at the Australian Open, the Italian also starts successfully in Paris – despite a long break.
Jannik Sinner won the first Grand Slam game after his three-month doping lock. The world ranking list from Italy prevailed 6: 4, 6: 3, 7: 5 at the French Open in his first round game against the Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech and was only challenged in the third set. There Sinner made up for a 0-4 deficit.
“Dear -round matches are never easy. Especially in the third set, it was very complicated,” said Sinner: “Thank you also for the support of the spectators, I appreciate that.”
Sinner was cheered by the French audience shortly after his three -month doping lock. On the Court Philippe Chatrier, about half in the night session, the Italian then dominated the first two sentences without shining.
In front of the eyes of football star Ousmane Dembélé, Rinderknech then brooded the arena in the third round and Sinner a little. The euphoric Frenchman took the surcharge twice twice. But Sinner passed the tournament’s first maturity examination. Because his opponent was more pronounced again in the end, he was able to march for a smooth match win in 2:15 hours.
Sinner had only given his comeback after a three-month break in Rome about two weeks ago, which he had taken over a correspondingly long lock after an agreement with the Welt-Anti-Doping agency Wada. In Rome, he had reached the final straight away, which he lost to Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz.
At the South Tyrolean, traces of the Clostebol doping agent were discovered in March 2024. Sinner stated that the substance was unknowingly into his body over the hands of a mass. The agency ITIA responsible for doping procedures believed the tennis professional and waived a lock. On the other hand, the Wada advanced and called the CAS sports court. The negotiation was then canceled after the extrajudicial agreement.
The three-time Grand Slam winner Sinner, who dominated the year 2024 on the tour and the Australian Open in January, wants to win a major title on sand for the first time in Paris. After his dismissed doping lock, he now showed himself in good shape.
