Simon Jocher achieved an impressive fifth place in the Super-G in Livigno. In doing so, he has achieved a major goal.
He surprised everyone: Simon Jocher qualified for next year’s Olympic Winter Games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo with an impressive fifth place at the Super-G in Livigno. The 29-year-old ski racer from Garmisch achieved the best result of his career and just missed the podium.
In the last World Cup race of the year in Livigno, Jocher showed a remarkable performance. After a disc operation in March, he mastered the course flawlessly in bright sunshine. With starting number 32, he missed his first podium finish by just 0.06 seconds at the same time as South Tyrolean Dominik Paris. This was his third top ten finish in his 60th World Cup start.
The Austrian Marco Schwarz won the race ahead of the Swiss Alexis Monney, Franjo van Allmen and Marco Odermatt. It was Black’s second victory in six days. However, veteran Romed Baumann and the young Luis Vogt did not make it into the top 30 and are still waiting for a top 15 result this season. Jocher had already achieved a place in the top 15 as 14th in the downhill run in Val Gardena.
Livigno was represented in the World Cup calendar for the first time. The men traditionally ride in neighboring Bormio, which is already being prepared for the Olympic competitions in February. Meanwhile, ski freestylers and snowboarders are fighting for medals in Livigno.
