At 26 he can look back and be fully satisfied with himself. Renato Sanches has a history of victories that is difficult to match (one league title with Benfica, two with Bayern Munich, one with Lille and one with PSG plus a series of national cups) including the European title with Portugal in 2016 which earned him the recognition of the best young player of the tournament. Sanches will fill an important role in the midfield of Mourinho’s team: “We have different types of players with different characteristics, I think it’s important to have a team that has a lot of variety in midfield, we have players with a lot of quality and I’m convinced that it’s really good so that the coach has different tactical choices.”

He is inevitably closely linked to the Special One: “It’s always easier when you have a Portuguese coach, it’s our language, it’s easier to understand what he wants and what he asks of me as a player. But above all it’s essential to hear his support”. From Portugal there are also Tiago Pinto and Rui Patricio: “It was a great fortune to find them, they can explain to me what the club is really like and I will probably be able to integrate more quickly”.

on the derby

As always happens with new arrivals, there is also talk of the derby with Lazio: “A derby is always a derby. We all want to win it, they are the city’s matches and when we represent our city we always have to win”.
