MOve aboutAl Pacino. This at least as impressive Scarface lives in North Australia. The crocodile may be very old and almost toothless, he is still the shock of the surroundings, the alphaman of the river. But how long?
Scarface is a sea crocodile (Crocodylus porosus) That swims around in the salty water of the Daintree. He owes his name to his battered appearance: the many scars are the result of territory fights with peers. In 2023, according to a local nature photographer, he would have had three teeth, a few years earlier six – how many there are now is unknown. That sounds disadvantageous for a kind that likes to catch wild pigs and other large prey, but according to experts, Scarface can also do well with, for example, fish and scratching.
Once one of the animal’s teeth was so inflamed that there were plans to take him to the vet, but in that case he should not have returned to the wild, according to the Australian regulations – his fans thought it was too unworthy. And so Scarface is still swimming around. Nobody knows how old the 4.7 meter long crocodile is, although it is speculated that he is around seventy.
Incidentally, sea crocodiles can indeed be dangerous for people: in 2024 a counterpart from Scarface in North Australia killed a 12-year-old girl.
