The police investigated for months, and the punishment order against Karim Adeyemi is now legally binding. He was sentenced to a heavy fine for illegal possession of weapons.

Karim Adeyemi has been sentenced to a fine of 450,000 euros for illegal possession of weapons. The penalty order against the 23-year-old offensive player from Borussia Dortmund became final on October 30, 2025, as the Hagen public prosecutor announced.

A report in the “Bild” newspaper shows that the fine corresponds to 60 daily rates of 7,500 euros each and was determined based on his net income. Adeyemi is therefore not considered to have a criminal record, but does receive an entry in the Federal Central Register.

According to the report, the investigations against the national player began in the summer of 2024. At that time, Adeyemi was not nominated for the German European Championship squad and instead traveled to Greece with his partner Loredana. During this period, the officers apparently came across brass knuckles and an electrical impulse device – both items whose acquisition, possession and use are punishable in Germany.

Adeyemi has not yet commented publicly on the specific background. When asked by Bild, his lawyer Jorge Mendes simply pointed out that the case had to do with a so-called “mystery box” that had been ordered via TikTok. Further details are unclear.

Borussia Dortmund responded to a request and emphasized: “BVB always takes criminal allegations seriously and as an opportunity to discuss them with its employees while maintaining confidentiality obligations.”

Adeyemi is currently with the German national team. He was not used in the 2-0 win in Luxembourg due to a yellow card suspension, but is in national coach Julian Nagelsmann’s squad for the upcoming duel against Slovakia (Monday, from 8:45 p.m. in the t-online live ticker).
