Overwhelmed Suzanne Bakker has to leave successful Ajax Women

Ajax Women and Suzanne Bakker part ways after this season. The 37-year-old trainer from Hensbroek had an expiring contract and it will not be extended. “I honestly didn’t see it coming and would of course have liked to see it differently,” says Bakker.

Bakker has been working at Ajax since 2018. She started as a trainer of the then newly established Ajax Women’s Talent Team. In the summer of 2022 she moved to Ajax Women and signed a two-year contract. Her employment will end after this season. “However, so far I can certainly look back on a fantastic period as head coach in which I am very proud of the results achieved.”

Good performances

In her first season, Bakker became national champion with the Amsterdam team and then Ajax Women qualified for the group stage of the Champions League. It performs excellently in the European tournament, as it leads the group with Paris Saint-Germain, AS Roma and Bayern Munich.

Ajax Women is currently at a training camp in Portugal. The competition will resume against Excelsior on Saturday, January 20. The last two matches in the group stage of the Champions League are scheduled for the end of January.
