There is currently no way in Nvidia chips in the AI segment. But the US group is also at the top in the original core business, graphics cards. Now, however, a new challenger is on the scene.
• Bolt Graphics presents a GPU that should outperform Nvidia products in performance and efficiency
• Expatible memory
• Performance promise still unconfirmed
With Zeus, Bolt Graphics, a startup from California, have expressed the market leader Nvidia. The product of the NVIDIA competitor, which, according to Bolt press release, comes with a completely new GPU design for high-performance workloads such as rendering, HPC and gaming, in particular to fix performance, efficiency and functional restrictions-and to be better than the comparison product of NVIDIA.
Faster than the competition
With important workloads, Zeus is faster than the competition, “many times over”, as Bolt Graphics emphasizes. How much you are superior to other products can also be read from the press release. “Users can increase the rendering performance by ten times, the performance of FP64 HPC workloads by six times and the performance of electromagnetic wave simulations by three hundred times.”
In addition, Bolt offers expandable memory for GPUs for the first time, which means that users could expand their memory to up to 384 GB with a PCIe card and up to 2.25 TB per zeus in a 2U server. A rack with Zeus 2U servers could even be configured with up to 180 TB memory – eight times compared to older GPUs, as the startup also emphasizes.
In addition, the bolt product of direct competition is also said for energy efficiency and wants to score particularly with calculation-intensive simulations. So far, an increase in performance requires higher energy consumption. Bolt wants to reverse this trend by lowering energy consumption and at the same time increasing performance. Reducing the environmental pollution by GPUs is one of the core values of Bolt as a newcomer in the GPU area, according to the startup. “Zeus increases performance and at the same time reduces electricity consumption,” summarizes Darwesh Singh, founder and CEO of Bolt Graphics. “I am proud of the committed use of the Bolt team to develop a solution that solves the most important problems of customers and enables them to work more productively and implement their ideas.”
Promise not yet verifiable
So far, it has not yet been possible to check whether the performance and energy efficiency promises of the startup have actually been implemented in reality, because the product that was officially launched in March should only be available in the fourth quarter. From 2026 you plan the production of large quantities. It is only at this point that it can be determined whether the highend comparison products from Nvidia and AMD actually got serious competition from a startup.
