‘Missed opportunity’ in the final for AZ: “We have to be better offensively”

A very sour European defeat for AZ. West Ham United won 0-1 in Alkmaar, taking the English to the final of the Conference League. “Little details made the difference,” says AZ striker Vangelis Pavlidis.

“You saw one team that wanted to play football and one team that wanted to defend the 2-1 lead,” says Vangelis Pavlidis. “It was tough in London and it was tough today and little details made all the difference.”

Small opportunities

Trainer Pascal Jansen labeled the encounters with West Ham United as a ‘missed opportunity’. “From an offensive point of view, we have to be just a little better to get more out of it,” says Jansen afterwards. “If you slack off even a little bit, it can become painful right away.”

Compared to last week in London, Milos Kerkez and Jesper Karlsson returned to the left side. “Karlsson has been out for a while and is not in his top form at the moment. Pavlidis has fought for what he is worth, but he has had a hard time over two games.”
