January 16, 2025 (changed at 11.44pm) – MILAN

Milan sees its streak of three consecutive victories in the Euroleague interrupted and falls at home against an irrepressible Partizan in the second half. It ends 90-70 in favor of Obradovic’s men, who also overturn the difference in goals (88-81 for Olimpia in Belgrade). For Messina’s men it is the tenth defeat in 22 games.

Spectacular bolts and shields

Olimpia started better, taking advantage of the transition. Shields immediately demonstrates that he has very hot hands (8 points in the 10th minute). EA7 shoots well from 3 (3/5 at 10′), thanks to excellent ball circulation. However, Obradovic’s defense begins to combine better and puts Milan in difficulty, who suffer, in their area, the greater physical size of their opponents (Jones above all). The tactical score of the match does not change even in the second period. Messina’s men continue to work very well behind, not allowing offensive rebounds in the first 20′ to Partizan, and above all they get a lot from the Bolmaro-Shields duo (who combine for 28 points at the long break, 14 each). Both capable of closing actions both in penetration and from the arc. Obradovic, on the other hand, relies on the dynamism of the two Joneses (Carlik, 12 points and Tyrique, 10), who prove to be a difficult puzzle to solve inside the area (the number 2 with penetrations, while the former Pesaro player, with deep movements towards the iron). The two quintets move the ball a lot (10 assists for Milan, 9 for the Serbs). The hosts suffer in the area (13/16 from 2 for Partizan), but are preferred from 3 (8/17), against the meager 2/9 of the visitors. The constant remains balance: after 17 all in the 10th minute, we go to halftime with Olimpia ahead, 40-37.

irrepressible partizan

Upon returning from the changing rooms, the teams begin to feel the strain of the double weekly shift and the pace drops. Milan stops the ball a lot and is unable to create concrete advantages, suffering from the aggressiveness of the Serbian defensive players. On the other hand, Partizan, with their defense lined up, attacks better, taking advantage of the movements of the big men and the passes for the shooters. Extraordinary Brown and Carlik Jones, who score continuously. Obradovic’s men “won” the third period by nine points (27-18). Ricci keeps EA7’s hopes alive, thanks to the triple, which puts two possessions back between the teams (58-64 at 30′). In the last period, Olimpia continues to suffer from Partizan’s physicality on both sides of the pitch and the attack experiences a moment of prolonged breakdown. Milan also slips behind by 14 points (64-78 at 37′). The hosts are no longer able to close the gap and lose the match.
