According to Spanish media, it is crystal clear: Queen Máxima visited the Botox doctor last month. It remains to be seen whether it helped, because during her current state visit to Suriname she certainly does not impress royalty expert Jeroen Snel with her appearance. He is shocked by her appearance.

‘Really tired!’

Máxima always wears a very large hat in Paramaribo. “You could say the hat was there,” says fashion expert Arno Kantelberg, who apparently had a bit of a taste for that thing. too much finds, in RTL Boulevard.

Colleague Luuk Ikink: “It’s nice against the sun.”

Jeroen then: “She was tired. And she hides nicely under that hat. I thought she looked really tired.”

Luuk: “And she still has a few days left!”

‘Disappointing’

What do the Surinamese actually think of the state visit? Luuk wonders. “We find it very interesting that they are there, it was a long time ago, but how do the Surinamese themselves actually view it?

Jeroen then: “Well, that’s a bit disappointing. The children you see here have simply been produced, namely from a school and brought there, but the streets around the presidential palace are simply empty. I saw one boy in an orange T-shirt somewhere along the route.”

30 years

The Surinamese people are not really interested, Jeroen continues. “The average age is also under 30 in Suriname, so they have never experienced it being in the Netherlands. We should not make the mistake of thinking, as in Curaçao, that everyone there will really enjoy it when Willem-Alexander and Máxima come.”

That bond is simply no longer there, he decides. “They now go to Curaçao every five years, but they have never been to Suriname again. It is no longer the Netherlands, is it. It is a country in itself, a republic and we must remember that.”
