Danny da Costa (31) and Daniel Batz (34) are retained to the 1st FSV Mainz 05. The defender and the replacement goalkeeper signed new working papers by June 30, 2026. Since Costa’s contract also contains an option for another year. In addition, defensive player Dominik Kohr extended his contract early by two years until June 30, 2028.
“Dominik is a guy with his passion and fighting spirit that Mainz 05 fully embodies. With his speed, physicality and game intelligence, he fills out the central defender position excellently. As a guy, Dominik is someone who is well received away from the square. Years of seeing our jersey, ”said sports director Niko Bungert.
Kohr initially came from Eintracht Frankfurt to Mainz 05 in early 2021. In 133 missions, the 31-year-old not only collected eight goals and five templates, but also a number of warnings and dismissal. In the Eternal Sündenkartei of the Bundesliga, “Hard-Kohr” is now in second place behind Stefan Effenberg.
Da Costa complemented sports director Bungert: “Danny has developed again in the past few months and that in a rather new position. The fact that he has survived a phase as difficult for him this summer and has come out more. It testifies to his character. Danny has shown what you can do if you don’t get there any time, even after disappointments. Bundesliga’s brain defender he is, he proves anew every week. ”
Since Costa, who has been wearing the FSV jersey for the second time since 2022, was on the right wing for years, but was less and less a train there. After he was born to the defense center from necessity, he has been set again since November. Goalkeeper Batz had switched from 1. FC Saarbrücken to the zero fifts in the summer of 2023 and has so far completed four missions as deputy by Robin Zentner (30).
“Daniel is both human and sporty an absolute role model. He gives 100 percent in every training session, brings in quality and gives us the good feeling that we could also count on him in possible Bundesliga missions.
