In training in Switzerland there is a moment of terror for Ramona Hofmeister – possibly with dramatic consequences for her big goal.
The German top snowboarder Ramona Hofmeister threatens the seasonal and thus Olympic stand. The Oberbayiner suffered an ankle fracture in a training sink in Zermatt (Switzerland). “Yes, this is a setback, but I accepted the circumstances,” she said, according to a message from Snowboard Germany.
A concrete forecast was not communicated. National coach Paul Marks said: “We will only be able to say how it goes on when the injury has healed. We will see whether this means that she can start again this season.”
Hofmeister in the German Snowboard team was the greatest hope for a medal for a medal at the Winter Games 2026 in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo. From 2020 to 2024 she won the overall World Cup four times in a row and had become second last winter.
“Prio one is now healthy, the focus is on the healing and to listen to the body,” said Hofmeister. Bitter: You may now miss the chance to celebrate an Olympic Happy end. Already at the 2018 games in Pyeongchang in South Korean, she had won the bronze medal. Four years later in Beijing, however, she had left the quarter -finals as a top favorite and became a disappointing fifth.
The winter games in northern Italy are on the program from February 6th to 22nd, as early as February 8th the parallel competitions are on. The World Cup season begins for the alpine snowboarders in China in early December. Hofmeister has so far been able to score 26 individual victories in her career.
