There are dozens of Israeli soldiers and sales gates around the various entrance gates of the walled old city of Jerusalem. Normally it is busy on Friday evening – the start of the weekend. Now the city is completely closed; Only residents of the old city are allowed in, whoever comes from outside is sent away. Since the morning, Israel has blocked access to the Al-AQSA mosque.
At the heavily guarded Damascuspoort, in the occupied Palestinian East Jerusalem where the old city is also located, groups of Ultra Orthodox Jews are praying in the park outside the city walls. They cannot go to the Wailing Wall, where Jews from all kinds of the city normally come to pray on Friday evening before the start of the Sabbath.
Despite the urgent advice to stay inside, there are still stores open and people on the street. In the Israeli West-Jerusalem, the shelters are running when the alarm goes off. There are hardly any shelters in East Jerusalem. Shops and restaurants are still open. The air is occasionally looked at the air if you can see drones and interceptions of rockets after an alarm. Residents reassure themselves with the idea that Iran will not quickly focus a rocket on the Al-AQSA mosque in the old city.
Most rockets intercepted
Most of the rockets that were shot in phases from Iran on Israel during the course of Friday evening were intercepted by the Israeli anti -aircraft system. Two anonymous American officials told Reuters news agency that the US helped in the defense of rockets.
Various rockets were brought in on Tel Aviv and Central Israël on Friday evening. 40 injured people were reported, two of which were in critical condition. The rescue work was still in full swing at that time.
Just like in East Jerusalem, on the occupied West Bank, where Israel set up a full lockdown on Friday morning and checkpoints closed, hardly any shelters. Earlier in the evening, one of the Houthis in Yemen hit the ballistic rocket in near the city of Hebron on the occupied West Bank, in the Palestinian village of Sa’ir. Three children were injured.
Attack on Iran
While Iran started the counterattack, the Israeli attacks on Iran also continued on Friday evening. According to the Israeli army, among other things, the Iranian anti -aircraft and an air force base in Tabriz have been hit.
During the Israeli attacks on Iran since Friday morning, various residential units also affected, with civilian casualties, including children. Some residents of Tehran have left the capital for fear of further attacks. Long lines also emerged at gas stations, reports news channel Al Jazeera.
The day started early for many Israelis. A little after three hours in the morning, the alarm went on mobile phones as a warning that Israel had started an attack on Iran. Many public buildings remained in Israel. In the afternoon, traffic in the city increased. Towards evening it became quiet after the authorities called on the population to stay near shelters.
