As a result of the defeat, the BVB women lost touch with the first two places and are now in sixth place after six group games, six points behind second-placed Metz.

Ten goals behind after two series

The hosts were highly superior in the first half and had a ten-goal lead by the break. After Borussia’s 4-2 goal by Guro Nestaker (4th), Esbjerg managed a 5-0 series.

After the 9:2, BVB kept the game even for some time, but when Esbjerg started another series at 15:10 (this time 6:0), Borussia was hopelessly behind with eleven goals.

Results cosmetics in half two

At least Dortmund managed to improve their performance somewhat in the second half. In the end, a ten-goal deficit turned into a seven-goal defeat at 29:36.

Duel of the national goalkeepers goes to filter

The bottom line is that the BVB women lost the game in the two weak phases of the first half. In the duel between the two German national goalkeepers, Katharina Filter (Team Esbjerg) had the upper hand with a strong catch rate of 40 percent compared to Sarah Wachter (31 percent) in the Dortmund goal.

For the hosts, the two-time world handball player Henny Reistad was the top scorer, while on the BVB side the French Déborah Lassource and the Norwegian Guro Nestaker stood out (all with eight goals).

Next DHB Cup, then to Romania

Borussia continues in the Champions League on Sunday with an away game against third-placed Gloria Bistrița from Romania (4 p.m.). Before that, BVB welcomes league rivals VfL Oldenburg in the quarter-finals of the DHB Cup (7 p.m.).

The Dortmund team is the only German representative in the premier class. HB Ludwigsburg, who also qualified, lost their starting place due to the economic hardship, and the Norwegian team Sola HK moved up.
