It’s painful news so close to the World Cup and less than a year before the Paris Olympics. The Stuttgart gymnast Elisabeth Seitz has torn her Achilles tendon.

A training accident on the ground destroyed all plans of gymnast Elisabeth Seitz for the time being. She will have an operation on her right foot in Heidelberg on Wednesday, and she has to cancel the start of the World Cup in Antwerp in three weeks (September 30th – October 8th, 2023). “I have to let it all sink in first. But my path is far from over. I’m very sad that I can’t support my team on the way to the Olympics at the World Championships in Antwerp. But I’ll do my best to support them I’m sure they’ll pull it off,” said the 2022 European Champion, who sustained the injury in the double twist element on the floor.

Seitz was one of the great medal hopes for the competitions in Belgium. Just a few days ago, the 29-year-old won the first qualification for the World Cup. In July, Seitz celebrated her 25th national title at the German Championships in Düsseldorf. She was unbeatable in the all-around and on the uneven bars. Now the record champion is approaching a break of several months.

Less than a year until the Olympics

Seitz’s absence hit the whole German team hard. Because the German women can only buy the Olympic ticket for the team competition in Antwerp. Without the German all-around champion from MTV Stuttgart, it will be even more of a challenge to finish at least 12th, which would mean qualifying.

Seitz himself plans to continue competing at the Olympic Games. She could be there via a quota place for the German team. It is not yet clear whether Seitz will be fit enough by then and get the place.
