Gordon sees ratings fall sharply, Tina Nijkamp: ‘Huge setback’

Gordon sees the ratings of his new TV show Wat Een Invention fall sharply. The second episode attracted about a fifth less viewers yesterday than last week. “Huge setback.”

It is a huge relief for Gordon when his contract expires soon. He got into trouble with John de Mol and says he will fly the flag on December 1 if he no longer has a TV contract with the Talpa billionaire. You may wonder who will soon breathe the biggest sigh of relief: Gordon or the viewer.

Gordon disappoints

Wat Een Invention, Gordon’s current TV show, is in any case not a success. This sequel to the TV classic Het Beste Idee van Nederland started last week with 483 thousand viewers (11.5 percent market share) and ended yesterday at 389 thousand viewers (8.9 percent). This puts him in twentieth place in the daily viewing figures top 25.

Viewing figure expert Tina Nijkamp, who has been channel boss of SBS 6 for years, says that this is very bad. “For Gordon a huge viewing setback. It now scores below 400 thousand viewers and also scores less than Lachen Om Home Videos. Even worse: only 5.7 percent market share in the commercial target group aged 20 to 54.”

‘Great idea crushed’

Tina thinks it’s a shame that TV classic The Best Idea has been killed like this. The biggest problem, she says, is the studio element, a fetish of John. “It’s been crushed by the big studio element again: inventions aren’t glitz and glamour. It was precisely the ordinary people who pitched their idea in the ‘red boxes’, that was the strength.”

That was the best part of the former show, Tina wrote to her earlier ratings juice channel. “Anyone who wanted to could come to audition days and pitch the idea in one minute. That large amount of ideas, THAT was the successful format element.”

What about hunting season?

And what about Hunting Season, which aired prior to Gordon? Yesterday Art Rooijakkers and Geraldine Kemper participated. 492 thousand people (11 percent) watched it, not a lot of money either. “Also a big disappointment for the (expensive) men Giel, Thomas and Stefan.”

She continues: “What happened? They don’t score well at all. Also postponed, the million was not tapped last week like last season: 753 thousand viewers. And that is quite disappointing. Has the format been worked out or does it look too much like Hunted for the viewer? But the real drama, as usual, is for Gordon.”
