With his two goals, Rayan Philippe was the decisive man in the 4-0 win of the HSV against Mainz 05. Last but not least, the promoted team, who took nine for the international break, arrived in the Bundesliga.
When the Frenchman celebrated his second goal to 4: 0 before the north curve, it was clear that the Hamburg victory was perfect – and the 24 -year -old showed that. He waved the forearms with stretched fingers on top of each other several times. Out, that’s it!
Philippe was the decisive man on Sunday evening. In the 1-0 of Sambi Lokonga, he involuntarily presented with a stick error, switched quickly at 2: 0 and thought about it. At his second goal, he showed his whole class: after a sprint over half the place, he kept in front of goalkeeper Lasse Rieß Kühlen head and hit the final score with a remarkable lupfer.
“It is crazy, we won 4: 0 at home against Mainz, and the mood was incredible,” enthused Philippe at the NDR microphone and explained: “Our switching game is perfect for my speed. We have so much quality. We play and defend well – perfect for my kind to play football.”
Three hits against HSV as a transfer argument
Philippe switched to the Elbe by second division competitor Eintracht Braunschweig – and, so to speak, climbed with the HSV. He reaches 21 hits in a total of 59 second division missions for the BTSV. In the two games against his future employer in the 2024/2025 (3-1 in Braunschweig and 4: 2 in Hamburg), the Frenchman succeeded in three goals.
And maybe that was the reason why the Hamburgers – above all sports board and ex -striker Stefan Kuntz – Philippe wanted a little more than the competitors. Because actually his change to Mainz seemed to have been decided. The Rheinhessen had only become around him in winter and then again with a view of the summer.
If Braunschweig had been relegated, Philippe could have changed free of charge. But the “lions” remained – by a gate of the courted striker – about the relegation in it and Mainz could not agree with the Lower Saxony on a transfer fee. At the end of the HSV, the contract was awarded; for a rained 2.5 million euros.
HSV is reinventing itself – Philippe fits perfectly in
Why those responsible at HSV were ready to take the money in hand became very clear against Mainz. Because the Hamburgers have basically reinvented themselves after the climb. After seven long years in the constant role of favorites, they are very often the clear outsider in the Bundesliga.
We have awareness that, unlike in the past seven years, counterattacks have a completely different status.

This is accompanied by a different approach. Mainz – not only because of the early deficit – had 65 percent possession, played a good 200 passes more than the home side and hit four times as many flanks. The HSV, however, had more and better chances that the switching game opened important rooms. And after only two goals in five games, against Mainz, it was finally possible to use the opportunities offering.
First score goals, then dance
Not least thanks to Philippe, who did not want to comment on the change-hickhack with Mainz after the game: “I’m now HSV player.” After his first goal of the evening, however, he had not been able to resist a little swipe when he had made a phone listener by hand and thus reminded the failed transfer negotiations.
The second goal then followed the “everything over” gestures. But it wasn’t over for Philippe with the final whistle. Because the Frenchman was again challenged in the HSV cabin. Even if not as a scorer: to celebrate the second home victory in a row and the jump in the place in the table, he had to “dance a bit”, explained Philippe. He didn’t want to reveal whether he also cut a good figure.
