Football star comments on shooting at Super Bowl parade

There was a shooting at the end of the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory parade on Wednesday. Football star Travis Kelce has now commented on this for the first time.

“My heart is broken by the tragedy that occurred today. My heart goes out to everyone who celebrated with us and those affected by it. KC [Kansas City, Anm. d. Red.]”You mean the world to me,” the 34-year-old wrote on the X platform.

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement via social media shortly after the shooting. “We are truly saddened by the senseless act of violence that occurred outside Union Station at the end of today’s parade and rally. Our condolences go out to the victims, their families and all of Kansas City,” it said. The NFL team added that “all of our players, coaches, staff and their families are safe,” while also saying it is in close contact with law enforcement and thanks first responders.

As People magazine reports, Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves confirmed during a second press conference on Wednesday that one death and 22 were injured following the shooting. At this time, authorities were still in the process of determining the total number of victims and identifying the deceased victim.

“At the moment we have no motive”

“Three individuals have been arrested and are being investigated for today’s incident,” Graves said. “We don’t have a motive at the moment.” He added: “I am angry about what happened today. The people who came to this celebration could expect a safe environment.”

The parade shooting coincided with the sixth anniversary of the Parkland school shooting in Florida on February 14, 2018, which left 17 people dead.
