Father explains why Canadian rap superstar remains silent on Hamas conflict

A video clip appeared on the US tabloid platform “TMZ” on Sunday (October 15th) showing a short interview with Dennis Graham, the father of Canadian rap superstar Drake (“One Dance”, “Nice For What”) shows. Graham is himself active in the music biz and has released the R’n’B track “Kinda Crazy”.

In the video he explains why his son has not commented on the Israel-Hamas conflict. The interview apparently came about when a camera crew intercepted Graham at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and questioned him ad hoc and about the threat of war escalation.

Drake, who is Jewish, has not yet commented on the escalation of the Middle East conflict.

“Well, then…” says Dennis Graham, looking a bit taken aback.

“I mean, I’m sure it’s everyone’s business; If you understand!? “It’s completely ridiculous,” Graham said.

Dennis Graham can only speculate. After all, he is not the press spokesman for his prominent pupil. The father suspects that Drake probably didn’t address the conflict because the rapper doesn’t see himself as a speaker for the political agenda. He doesn’t want to expose himself to a threatening spiral of insults and counter-insults. “So you stay out of it, especially if you’re someone who’s very well known around the world.”

That would by no means be the job of a pop star, even if he is Jewish.

To the background:

Drake’s silence on the Middle East crisis is a hot topic on social media, especially after YouTube wizard DJ Vlad Drizzy called out both Drake and Dj Khaled for their lack of comment on their digital channels.

“Has anyone noticed that the most famous Jew in the world, Drake, and the most famous Palestinian in the world, DJ Khaled, have said nothing about the Gaza-Israel conflict?” Vlad blasphemed on the short message channel X.

“It’s not like Drake is that busy. He wrote lengthy paragraphs about Joe Budden hurting his feelings. DJ Khaled has been working overtime to promote his new Jordan sneakers.”

“But they both remain silent on this important topic. Why is that?”

DJ Vlad continues to speculate.

His postulate:

Drake and Khaled would remain silent because they did not want to expose themselves to such topics that could also harm them financially. For example, when certain fan groups call for a boycott…”

Public neutrality is not easy in these heated days.

“Heaven forbid Drake ends up at number 2 behind Taylor Swift because some of his Palestinian fans decided not to stream his album,” he continued, full of sarcasm.

“And it would be the end of the world if Khaled sold a few less designer sneakers because a few Jewish people decided not to buy his Jordan sneakers.”

His conclusion:

“That’s the difference between today’s pop stars and legends like 2Pac. You know damn well that ‘Pac would be the first to speak out about something so close to his heart,’ says Vlad with the air of the pop music inquisition.
