Taylor Swift’s ‘The Eras Tour’ film breaks sales record

The film led to the highest-grossing opening weekend for a concert film.

Taylor Swift’s concert film “The Eras Tour” premiered in the USA on October 12th. A day later, the film opened in cinemas in Germany and the rest of the world. After just one weekend, the singer’s concert documentary is setting new records in America.

The weekend’s box office in North America is estimated at $95 million to $97 million, according to the New York Times. Together with worldwide sales, this sum increases again by around 31 to 33 million US dollars, resulting in a final result of 126 to 130 million US dollars. Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour” film now holds the record for the highest-grossing opening weekend for a concert film.

With this record, she replaces Justin Bieber’s “Never Say Never”, which brought in not a little but far less in its first weekend: 41 million US dollars. By the end of the season, it had grossed $138 million worldwide. The current record for the highest grossing total for a concert film is held by “This Is It”, a film about Michael Jackson’s rehearsals for a tour that never took place, which was released after his death. It grossed $380 million worldwide.
