Ex-Bochum broschinski meets

Two gross negligence gave VfB Stuttgart the first defeat in the current European League season. The Swabian Bundesliga club lost 0-2 (0: 1) to the Swiss champion and cup winner FC Basel. The lead for the hosts achieved Albian Ajeti after a heavy carver of Stuttgart’s Lorenz Assignon (3rd minute), for which 2-0 took care of the ex-Bochum Moritz Broschinski (84.) in front of 33,650 spectators.
VfB once again awarded Himedin Demirovic a penalty (36th). After the break, almost only the Swabians played, but did not hit the goal against the strong former Bundesliga goalkeeper Marwin Hitz.
Both teams are three points after two game days of the league. Last week, Basel, trained by the former master player Ludovic Magnin, lost 1-2 at SC Freiburg.
The atmosphere in the “Joggeli” was heated, especially in the guest block, plenty of pyrotechnics was burned down. And the VfB caught a catastrophic start. Assignon played a fateful false pass in the direction of his own penalty area, Ajeti freely appeared in front of Alexander Nübel and scored through the legs of the national goalkeeper for the early 1-0 for the Swiss double winner.
The Stuttgart residents bought, but had to be careful with counterattacks of the hosts. After 18 minutes, Jeremy Agbonifo could have increased for Basel, but his low shot landed on the right post.
Badredine Bouanani was one of the activities of the Swabians in the first half, but Demirovic had the greatest chances. First the striker headed freely over the gate (27th). Then he failed by penalty on the former Wolfsburg, Augsburger and Dortmund goalkeeper Hitz.
VfB CEO Alexander Wehrle was annoyed that Demirovic had to wait a long time for a Var check. The process was “wrong”, he said at “RTL”. The Swabians can hardly deny that they generally have a major problem. Last season, they shot five out of eight penalty jets, and two out of three in the current season.
In the added time of the first round, the guests were very lucky. The former Bayern professional Xherdan Shaqiri awarded one of three good chances of the Swiss with a fine lupfer from around 30 meters.
Even after the break, the game remained entertaining. Assignon only hit the outside of the angle (50th), Chema Andrés failed in the head (58th). The Stuttgarters increased the pressure from minute to minute. Around 20 minutes before the end, VfB coach Sebastian Hoeneß also brought Chris Leadership and Bilal El Khannouss as fresh offensive forces.
From Basel, little came in the second round. After Tiago Tomás had given another big chance against Hitz (81st), Broschinski was suddenly on the spot and finally pressed a ball from Shaqiri over the line.
