DVV women with opening victory in the Nations League

The German volleyball players started the Nations League with success. National coach Vital Heynen’s team beat the Netherlands 3-1 (25-21, 25-22, 20-25, 25-22) in Nagoya, Japan, on Tuesday.

The best scorer for the selection of the German Volleyball Association (DVV) was outside attacker Hanna Orthmann with 24 points. The DVV team meets Croatia, China and Bulgaria in the first of a total of three weeks. In the Volleyball Nations League (VNL), Germany is about important points for the world rankings with a view to qualifying for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

16 teams per gender compete in the VNL. In the first phase, the teams play twelve games each, the best eight nations qualify for the quarter-finals. Last season, the DVV women finished tenth. The men’s national team will start the VNL season against Brazil on June 8th in Ottawa/Canada.
